Soulfully Driven

My day starts with a cup of coffee in the pretty tea cup that was my Mimi’s. Half asleep, I open the drapes in my studio to greet the light and sit at my desk to flip through the pages in my sketchbook. My sketchbook is like a sacred safe, my life and inspiration are all documented and kept in my sketchbook. It’s my journal, my inspiration board, my look book, my mind’s files compiled in one beautiful scribbled place. I light a candle and begin to write. Free writing helps me determine my heart’s position and set my intentions, and from that point, I feel free and prepared to approach the canvas.

There’s an immense amount of energy and magic that happens when I’m working. I get lost, my mind is free, my heart is happy, nothing satisfies me like the process. I find joy and fascination with marks, layers of media and collage, materials and experimentation. I always like to leave some of the marks because I think it’s generous to let each layer of the painting have life. It’s like keeping a moment. I can trap time if I want. In this place, my mind is truly awake.
